Works commenced in November 2020 and were completed in July 2021. The package related to the roofing and cladding to the Fire Station and adjoining Accommodation Block including all rainwater gutters. The works were designed by HLM Architects.
The works commenced with the main Fire station which had a Kalzip standing seam system installed. This consisted of a site built up system with a 0.7mm thick steel liner, vapour control layer, 300mm thick plus 40 insulation compressed to provide a U-value of 0.15w/m2k, and a top sheet with a 65/500 profile formed from 0.9mm thick aluminum coated in a red RAL 3002 finish. Membrane lined composite gutters were also installed. Internal rainwater pipes were by others.
The walls to the Fire Station were also completed with the same products as the roof. These also included a curved eaves feature detail.
To the Accommodation block and aluminium rainscreen system, manufactured by CGL was installed. This was installed directly to the blockwork and included a K15 150mm thick insulation board and a Tyvek breather membrane. A 3mm thick aluminium cassette panel was then installed with an adjustable support system provided by Architectural Panel Solutions Ltd. The roof to the Accommodation block was a similar build up to the Fire Station although the finish was a natural aluminium finish as PV panels (by others) were to be installed over the roof area.
To the balcony area a Sika Trocal loose laid PVC membrane system with insulation that was cut to falls to allow rainwater runoff. Paving slabs on supports were then installed over these.
Onto the roof area a latch way man safe lifeline system was installed. This allows for a safe methodology for any future maintenance works.
Most areas on this building were in higher areas across the building we would access these with a mobile elevation working platform, the machine would help us get into higher areas to access the panels and Kalzip system in areas unable to get from the floor.
Theale Fire Station is now a compliant building that meets regulations.
